THE WINERY TODAY
Nowadays the winery has the capacity for 2,900,000L in concrete tanks and 3,930,000L in stainless steel tanks, making a total of 6,830,000L.
PREMISES
Although the firmentation process is done in stainless steel tanks because of its technological advantages, storage and settling period takes place in concrete tanks. Even newly built Riojan wineries consider concrete tanks as the most beneficious for wine storage.
– Building for Crianza of 800 m² with 620 barrels.
– Two horizontal pneumatic press machines.
– Bottling machine that bottles 3,000 bottles/hour.
– Temperature and pumping up frequency computing control.
– Cold-heat equipment in every steel and concrete tank with a tube heat exchanger with 5ºC cooling in an hour.
– Micro-oxygenation system.
– Computing management and traceability of the whole winery.
OENOLOGIST
OUR OENOLOGIST Roberto Monforte López creates high-quality wines at Bodega San Miguel since 2003. He comes from a traditional winemakers family of Villamediana and Clavijo villages. |
Graduated in Chemistry in La Rioja University (1995-1998).
Graduated in Oenology in La Rioja University (1998-1999).
First experience at Bodegas Roda in Haro (1999-2001).
Oenologist at Bodegas Torres Librada (2001-2003).
Oenologist at SC Bodega San Miguel since 2003.
GRAPE
The co-operative produces annually 4.5m kilos.
Bodega San Miguel cooperative includes 200 members who own in total 739 hectares of vineyards: 456 ha of Tempranillo variety, 212 ha of Grenache, 40 ha of Mazuelo, 2 ha of Graciano, and 29 ha of a white variety Viura. These extensive vineyards have been an integral part of a local agriculture for centuries.
In 1751 Ausejo people had 369 ha; in 1881 the vineyards expanded to 510 ha; and nowadays we are proudly taking care of 1,117 ha of land. Ausejo is occupying the 4th place among the villages in La Rioja with more vineyards.

2012 | Bodegas San Miguel red wine has not stopped winning awards since 2009, when it won La Rioja Vintage Wine Competition, organized by Caja Rioja Foundation. It repeated in 2004, 2009, 2011 and 2012, being considered as one of the best wines in La Rioja. |

2010 | RED WINE / Caja Rioja Foundation organize La Rioja Vintage Wine Competition. It is a traditional event at the same time as the Harvest Festivities. This competition aims that producers and wine are more known and the wine-making activity is promoted in the region. |

2004 | In 2004 Bodega San Miguel red wine was finalist at La Rioja Vintage Wine Competition organized by Caja Rioja Foundation. This changed in 2009 when it was not finalist but it did win the award. Since that year, we have been winning. |
